The Box Brush House is located on one of Sydney’s “Avenues of Honour” commemorating the soldiers of World War I. Along this street, numerous box brush trees were planted in their honour, creating a place where bereaved families could mourn and work through the loss of their loved ones, with each tree guard carrying a plaque with the name of a fallen soldier.

Alterations of the existing rendered house aims to respect the local heritage of the street through a sensitive design that continues the landscaped tradition of the area, whilst embracing the beachy style of the locality. Aesthetics and function were balanced alongside the need to mitigate flooding risks on the land.

Our Lab was responsible for the design and documentation of this project.
